Winter Activities for Simpleray

During the winter, installations at Simpleray inevitably slow down due to the harsh Midwest weather conditions. It may seem like a slow season, but we've been busy preparing for new installations, attending the Jefferson County STEM Festival, and exhibiting at the Southeast Iowa Farm Show!

Involvement with our local community is important to us and we love to have fun with technology, so planning an activity for the Jefferson County STEM Festival was a no-brainer! The STEM Festival (short for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) was Monday, February 28th and was hosted by Fairfield Community School District and Indian Hills Community College. We set up a learning activity for the kids with five solar powered mini-cars (the size of a hotwheels car) and two flashlights. The flashlights powered the mini solar cells on the back of the car, converting the light energy to electrical energy causing the cars to speed across the race track! Our "race track" was a full size solar module converted into a flat table, so the kids could observe and touch a solar panel up close and learn more about renewable energy.

The Southeast Iowa Farm Show at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is rapidly becoming one of the state's best exhibitions of agriculture machinery, seed and technology, grain handling, and more to assist in today's farming operations. This was the third annual SE IA Farm Show and we had a booth again this year. Solar for farmers is a growing industry and we were excited to speak with area farmers and other agriculturists about the opportunity to include solar power in their farming operations. Many of us at Simpleray grew up on farms in the Midwest and so we felt right at home among tractors, trucks, and friendly farmers!

What's next for us? We are now gearing up for a full season of solar installations and happy customers! #BeBright
