Experts Avoid Rust On Solar Arrays

Many solar installers make the mistake of using dissimilar metals which will cause rust. We use only anodized aluminum or stainless steel for our racking and brackets. Additionally, anytime there is a potential for dissimilar metal to come in contact with the equipment we use a sealant which isolates the two metals and prevents corrosion.  

The nitty-gritty details:

  • Racking is made with anodized aluminum
  • The brackets that attach the solar panels are anodized aluminum or stainless steel.
  • By using compatible metals this prevents corrosion and rust.
  • Another variable to consider is the roof itself. For example, some roofs are made out of steel. Steel and anodized aluminum/stainless steel are not compatible. Thus, we use a sealant between the roof brackets and the roofing material that isolates the two metals and prevents corrosion.
